My Capstone taught me a lot, not only about working on a website, but also what it takes to run a small business and how incredible my grandmother is running her own buiness at the age of 75.
Prior to this capstone project, I had no experience in working on a website. I had no clue what a plug-in was, let alone how to work with one. It took me a lot of trial and error, but eventually I became good at basic things like uploading pictures and posting recipes. At that point, the one thing I still had to master was the plug-in; I was asked to change the pricing on the website and this required me to learn how to use plug-ins. For some, that might sound like an easy task, but it took a lot of googling and videowatching before I finally accomplished this "simple" task of changing the pricing. This made me realize how much work it takes to run a small online business, not only do you have to get your product patented, manufactured, and approved. You also have to calculate the price you need to charge for your product inorder to ensure that you can keep the business running and not lose money. Then you have to create a website that makes people want to buy your product. It has to look trustworthy and professional. The biggest take away from doing this project was how big of an inspiration my grandmother is to me. My grandmother have always been a role model to me, but realizing how much work it is to run her business and ensuring that the website works and her product is being sold, gave me a new level of respect and appreciation for her. And furthermore, this project have made me realize that I really want to get more involved in this company and potentially in the future I would like to run it, so that I can ensure that all the hard work that was put into this company doesn't go to waste.
